Please feel free to click on any of the questions below to familiarize yourself with my proofreading services.
I focus on three areas: grammar (e.g., subject-verb agreement), mechanics (e.g., spelling), and style (the flow of a text). My proofreading is substantive: I perform high-quality proofreading that addresses not only obvious and simple mistakes but also subtle and complex weaknesses.
I have been a self-employed proofreader (editor) since 2001. Prior to that, I accumulated nine years of experience both teaching (high school math) and tutoring (university-level history, philosophy, and mathematical logic). I have a bachelor's degree in the humanities. I should note that proofreading constitutes my full-time job, not a job that I do on the side. It has been my sole source of income since 2001.
Please go to the contact page on this website to request my full résumé (detailing my educational and professional background). I will email it to you within 24 hours.
I do all of my proofreading on computers.
For my proofreading, I use Microsoft Word's Track Changes tool. This simple, highly effective tool highlights both my insertions and my deletions in documents. Thus, you—the author of a proofread document—can easily identify all of my suggestions and can accept or reject them as you see fit. Furthermore, the Track Changes tool records the exact hour and minute of each suggestion. This feature enables you to track the exact time at which I made each suggestion.
I proofread all types of documents, especially in academics and business:
• journal manuscripts (SCI, SSCI, A&HCI) • conference papers
• résumés • peer-reviewer comments • books • chapters
• undergraduate papers • proposals • master's theses • dissertation theses
• post-doctoral papers • graphs, tables, figures, and maps • syllabi
• statements of purpose • magazine and newspaper articles • lectures
I proofread in all academic fields:
• the humanities
• the pure sciences
• the natural sciences
• the social sciences (quantitative & qualitative)
In 2025, I charge US$38/hour for proofreading jobs.
I also offer one-on-one English-language tutoring at US$75/hour.
I pride myself on rapid turnover of documents. For example, I guarantee completion of a typical journal manuscript within a few days.
I proofread all documents twice: for the first proofreading, I average 600 words per hour; for the second proofreading, I average 3,000 words per hour. These averages vary according to the quality of the writing and the type of document I'm proofreading (for example, short documents such as cover letters require more time than long documents such as journal manuscripts).
This per-hour figure reflects two important facts: (1) my proofreading is substantive, and (2) I proofread English-language papers written by non-native speakers of English.
Hiring me is simple. Just e-mail me to schedule a time for a proofreading job.
Tell me three things: (1) how many words long your document is, (2) when you want to send me the document, and (3) when you need the document finished.
I will reply to your e-mail within 24 hours, and we can then schedule guaranteed times and dates for your proofreading job. It's that simple!
PayPal handles all of my payments and is very simple and safe.
I offer business invoices and business receipts to clients.
If you would like to see a sample of my receipt, please feel free to request one.
Your privacy is of the highest importance to me. I never collect private information from my clients. I never share any client information with third parties. And I always delete all proofread documents after payment has been processed.
